Job Description: Kastelein General Contracting is a small residential remodeling and renovation company in the Metro Boston area. We are currently looking for a qualified candidate to join our team as a full-time Carpenter’s Assistant. This is an entry-level position. The applicant should have an interest in the field of carpentry and remodeling. No prior experience in carpentry is required but a familiarity with basic hand and power tools will be helpful. The applicant should expect to be exposed to a wide range of tasks including and not limited to demolition, framing, insulation, drywall and patching, window/door installation, exterior and interior finish carpentry, tiling, and painting. The ideal applicant will have an excellent work ethic and desire to learn and improve their skills. A valid driver’s license and your own means of transportation are required. You must be legally allowed to work in the US. Ability to repeatedly lift and carry 50 – 80 lbs. is required. Expectation of 2 – 3 years at this position before progressing to Junior Carpenter level.

Compensation may be negotiable based on experience and competency.

At time of hire: Applicant will be provided with basic hand tools (if needed) and would be expected to supplement their personal tools over the next months with some of the more commonly used hand tools (no power tools needed).

By 6 – 10 months: Employee should have a knowledge of the daily set-up and clean-up procedures and be able to identify and retrieve most power and hand tools as needed. Employee will be expected to perform basic demolition and carpentry tasks and assist with all other tasks as needed. Employee should be familiar with using basic hand tools and cordless drill and have begun training with common power tools. Employee should be observing and mindful of the job process and procedures so they can begin anticipating and taking initiative to prepare for next steps.

By 12 – 18 months: Employee should have a good understanding of job process and sequences and should be able to anticipate and take initiative in set-up for current job stage and retrieval of appropriate tools for tasks at hand. Employee should be able to use common power tools (i.e. corded circular saw, reciprocating saw, miter saw, table saw) for basic cuts accurately and safely. Employee should be familiar with wider range of hand tools and be able to select the proper tool for different applications.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 – $19.00 per hour
