k/1 pod and grade 3 pod teachers needed

In-House Teachers for two small pods-  K/1st and grade 3 (Chestnut Hill)

Four families seek creative, thoughtful, and patient teachers for the upcoming academic year (2020-21) for one group of K/1 students and another of third graders. The children are all in the Newton Public Schools and will have access to that curriculum, but, given the unusual nature of this year, we additionally hope to develop opportunities for them to deepen their learning and give scope for their curiosity and various passions.

The successful candidate will have experience in elementary education, and an interest in developing the capacities of children. Our children have a range of gifts and interests. All perform at grade level and are tractable and pleasant students; two have mild learning differences and might benefit from some knowledge of special education tactics.

Responsibilities will include collaborating with the parents on supplementing the materials provided by the school system and/or using additional curricula;  supporting the children as they enhance their social-emotional skills and increase cognitive skills such as executive functioning; providing a safe and supportive learning environment during this time that has proved so challenging for all; providing individualized attention and opportunities to each child; monitoring each child’s progress and communicating regularly with her or his parents.

The families involved have a committed friendship with each other and are prepared to collaborate in working through the inevitable challenges of a new venture. All are committed to best practices in health and safety and will continue to follow the advice of medical professionals and public health experts. The involved parents (who work in the medical, legal, and higher-ed fields) intend to foster the best–and safest–experience for their children, and for the talented educator who will be guiding them during the coming academic year.

We will provide dedicated classroom space in Chestnut Hill, all supplies needed, and a competitive salary. Start date mid-September.

Licensed teacher preferred. Serious inquiries with resumes and available references only, please.
